what typeface set does this LCD use ? I have tried all the Ascii values to get extended chars, but it all seems to be Hyroglyphs and does't correspond with any known installed system font.

SO you have to guess what it will output. Only standard a-z, A-Z 1-9 and shifted Chars ...

There is one way round it i suppose, Send it to a friend in Canada, who then post it onto me and Bypass the customs
