To adjust contrast, it has to be done via firmware. With that being said, can you please contact Tom at tlam@matrixorbital.ca and he we will discuss some RMA options with you. I appreciate your patience regarding this matter.

Like Mat said, the chance of LCDC crashing is very minimal. We only use the very best products available at Matrix Orbital and LCDC is the best on the market!! That being said, it's always a good idea to safeguard for any unforeseen circumstance. :D

Unfortunatley the preset values are the only values that are currently available. The limitation of our controller establishes this guideline. We have looked into ways of making the frequency totally customizeable and this will not be available until our next revision. I apologize for any inconvenie...

Can you verify that it is a 12V module? If not, can you please take a pic of the PCB and we will let you know. Please, do not attempt to apply power if unsure of the voltage requirements.
