Well I got the adapter and did what you said, and to my suprise it worked!

Incase anyone cares what I did with it:

I will operate on my board in a few days and let you know how it goes, I am still waiting for my USB to RS232 adapter to come in so I can't test it yet. I got to find a DB9 connector too, I may get lazy and just solder some wires to the pins I need.

What I ment for 3 was, I know I have to solder a resistor into the blank spot, but I do not know what size of one to put there. It was a kind of a "fill in the blank" statement.

I see the two pads that needs to be cleared.

Any comments/tips for unsandwiching the two boards?

Well this isn't all bad news, at least it is possible. Unfortunately I am stuck with Rev 1.23. So let me just confirm everything that needs to be done:

1. Remove white connector and attach DB9
2. Reconnect the two traces under SIPEC IC
3. Attach unknown sized resistor to the 4th pad directly under ...
