soldering my own cable extension

i was unable to purchase the accesory for my blk202a that fits in pci slot.but i have the parts to make it.i will explain & hopefully you will understand what i am getting at.i have the spare pci piece that came with my mobo plus the com1 type connector.on the cable that attaches to the db9 plug,on the right side that wires to the row of 5 pins the outermost wire is pink.when i solder the connector on the other end of cable would i twist the cable so the same pink wire would solder in on the right side of the top row of 5 connectors on the other db9.i will not do this until i am positve i am soldering it properly.thnx for your help
