Any 3.5" manufacturers/projects?

Post by batfastad »

So I thought I'd do a quick search on LCD displays - with every PC manufacturer releasing a "media centre" these days they all seem to have flash LCD screens in them

and there's loads of this LCD stuff going on!!! I want one!!!!!

I've built my own from a shuttle case (i always say custom builds are better than manufactured - and that's even more true for media centres IMHO)

I currently have a card reader stuck in the 3.5 slot in my shuttle case, but if I can find the right display, I'd say bye-bye to that!
I've already developed a custom network music playing system/remote control of my media centre, using a wireless PDA

I know matrix orbital don't do 3.5" mounting kits from another thread, but I was wondering if anyone else had any more information on other suppliers/sites??

Ideally I'd like to find a display that's blue, or oled but mainly one that maximises the limited space available with 3.5" bay sizes
So a screen almost covering the whole of the bay would be great

Anyone have any suggestions for this??

Secondly, what is used to program these things??
I know about LCDC for matrix orbital displays

Basically I was hoping I'd just be able to change the display contents by writing scripts in AutoIt to refresh the information
Or is it more involved than that??

Does the controller software for some of these things let you create scripts that you can run to change the display? Ideally through the command line

This is really exciting - i had no idea there was such a massive market for all of this kinda stuff already!!

I need to get me one of these things!!!

Thanks

Ben

Hi batfastad,

Thank you for posting on the forum.

You can try mounting a 4x20 display to your case. There are some dislays with pictures of the display mounted in the 3.5" slot. You can refer to http://www.lcdforums.com/forums/viewtop ... sc&start=0

Unfortuantely the pled 4x20 display isn't up to date yet, but you can get a whit on blue display. A good option would be either the LK204-24-USB-WB or LK204-25-WB. For detailed information, you can refer to the manuals below.

LK204-25 http://www.matrixorbital.ca/manuals/LK_series/LK204-25/

LK204-24-USB http://www.matrixorbital.ca/manuals/LK_ ... 04-24-USB/

LCDC is one of our main applications for alphanumerics, but lots of companies do program your application. You can write a program in any programming language. You will just need to be able to write data to the com port. There are some examples on the forum.

Feel free to look around on the main website at http://www.matrixorbital.com/ , the lcdc website at www.lcdc.cc , and the lcdc forum at http://forums.lcdc.cc/index.php?act=idx

I haven't used AutoIt yet, but if it can write data to the com port, then it will work.

If you have anymore questions or concerns, please feel free to post them.

Best Regards,
