Floppy Molex Power

Post by logla »

I just recieved my fist LCD this morning :D

Its an LK204-24-USB-WB with serial number 04m06-1272

I'm a bit confused about this external power thing. Can I plug an unmodified power connector straight into the unit or do I need to solder jumper 1 and remove 2?

Apparently you do not need to solder or remove anything. That was an error in the manual. If you have purchased recently and your manual describes removing the jumper 2 then i would hazard a guess MO have sent you and old manual?

Just plug the unmodified floppy cable into the bacjk of the unit and your 'good to go!'

The manual has been correct from the start, the correct way is to remove those jumpers, but 99.9% of the time it is not necessary. So just plugging in the floppy power cable will do the trick.

Excellent, It works - Thanks guys!

What I am now a little worried about though is that I read somewhere that you should not connect the floppy connector unless you have something using that extra juice on the GPOs.

Is this correct? The reason I ask is because I only want to connect to external power so that the lcd lights up when I first power on the machine. I wont be using the GPOs for a little while yet.

If you wanted to use the GPOs for a fan, relay, or any high power device you must have the jumper below the GBOs on the left side which is labeled HP. You need to connect unmodified floppy power cable to run the high power GPO. If you were just going to connect LEDs, you can use the LED indicator bus which doesn't need any external power. The GPO ports for that is on the bottom right hand corner. To change the default command for having the GPO turn on at start up, refer to link below or you can look on page 28 of the manual.

The link for purchasing an LED bus is below.

The manual is being updated. The problem is that we have old (incorrect) and new manuals floating around. We're looking to solve that ASAP and get this all cleared up.
:eyebrow:

OK! So one of you is wrong? please clear this up once and for all?

thank you Henry
