1) Will modules of this size : http://www.matrixorbital.com/pages/prod ... oductID=57 fit (with properly modded cover) fit into a 5.25" bay? What I mean is that you can mod some aluminum to fit around the display only and have the PCB hidden behind everything and it will fit a 5.25" bay, right?
2) Does having the LCD display details about the PC require a program to run in the background? Does it leave a large footprint?
3) Just to confirm, the LCD powers down when the computer is off, correct?

1)You will be able to have the unit look like it fits on a 5.25" bay, but it will be occupying another bay on the inside of the PC. You are correct, you will need to do a modification for the PCB to be hidden behind everything.
2) You willl need some kind of program to have details about the PC display. You may use LCDC, and you can get information on this at http://www.lcdc.cc/ and http://forums.lcdc.cc/index.php?showforum=6. Please elaborate more on what you mean on a "large footprint".
3) The LCD will power down when the computer is off depending on if you use the PC's power supply.
By footprint I'm mostly talking about resources required to run. I'm a bencher and a gamer, and resources running in the background drive me insane, so I'm just wondering how much ram on average LCDC takes up while running in the background. I wish there was another way to have the LCD display information without having a program running, but it's pretty much not possible, unfortunately. Just wondering how annoying the process running in the background is.
It isn't required to run in the systray or anything, is it? Preferably I'd just see lcdd.exe in the processes tab with under 2 MB usage and no systray icon.
You for sure will need to have some kind of sofware program to run the displays. It won't affect your gaming much if any though. There has been may gamers using the displays while playing games.
As for getting it to run outside of the system tray.....you would probably get a better answer at http://forums.lcdc.cc/.
