MX212 on Win XP Pro SP2 Problem

Post by reloaded »

I just upgraded my whole PC from P4 to A64. I had the Matrix Orbital MX212 since then and had no problems using it in my P4 Win XP Pro SP1 rig. When i migrated my MX212 to my A64 and tried installing it on WIN XP Pro SP2 it just identifies the MX212 as an "Unknown Device" under the Universal Serial Bus Contollers. I tried installing and reinstalling the unit using both internal usb and external usb connectors. im not using a floppy connector on it since i didnt use one on my p4 rig. its just the usb cable.

hope you can help me on this one kind sirs.:D

thanks in advance.

In case you ask, yes the unit did light up when i connect the MX212 to USB (internal/external) it shows blocks first on the screen then the MX2 Boot Screen then the backlight just fades. then that's it.

Windows never identified the unit as MX2, it just says a USB Device then never asks me on drivers. its all automated. then windows, prompts me for an unrecognized USB device.

i dont know whats wrong. :( maybe win sp2 has a predefined driver for this since i saw in the system32 folder that there is 2 dll's that is similar to the MX212 drivers namely:

ftdiun2k.dll
ftdiunin.dll

but other than that i have no idea. i also tried going on the registers to check for the 2 keys i need to delete but it seems both of them are not there. :(

Hi reloaded,

Windows XP won't have predefined drivers, and you will need to reload the drivers then, since it isn't found in the registries.

Try uninstalling the "unidentified USB Device", then scan for hardware changes. You will then be able to load the drivers.

Try this, and let me know if it works for you.

Tom,

i tried uninstalling it and did scan for hardware changes and nothing happened still. it found a usb device then identified it as an unknown device. windows confirmed that the hardware installed successfully but we both know it didnt.:) i believe, this happened to me before as well when i upgraded my pc to sp1 and i got an answer from you guys thru email that worked. but i just cant find that email anymore. hope we can resolve this. thanks.

Do you have any other drivers that have a conflict on them?(Yellow circle with exclamation mark) That will also cause problems with the driver install.

nope i dont have usb devices that are malfunctioning or has an exclamation point under the device manager. here are the list of USB devices currently connected to my PC:

1. Bluetooth Dongle for my Epox Barton Keyboard and Mouse (Bluetooth)
2. Ipod Mini
3. Mitsumi FDD + Card Reader Combo Drive
4. XDA Mini PDA thru MS ActiveSynch
5. ATI Remote Wonder II

aside from that nothing else. except for the occassional external 2.5" USB HD enclosure i use as well. All of these devices are working flawlessly right now.

Try removing the devices and their drivers, and see if the display will work with the devices unplugged. You can then plug them in one by one to see which unit has caused a conflict. I have seen this a few times where another devices conflicted with the MO display.

Hopefully that suggestion works.

i distinctly remembered that when it happened before, i never removed/unistalled any of my USB devices. i was only asked to remove a certain file in the system32 folder before connecting the MX212. that was win xp pro sp1 sir. care to share it to me again. thanks.

already formatted the pc and fresh installed win xp pro sp2. the first thing i installed were the chipset drivers and did a windows update and included the .net framework. then i tried to connect the MX212 and for a almost the minute all i got was white blocks on the first line with blacklight before the Matrix Orbital screen shows. still the MX212 was detected as an "Unknown Device" the unit cant be detected properly.:(

Hi reloaded,

Can you try the unit on another system? I want to eliminate the possibility that it is the system or the unit. The problem might even be the unit has become defective.

Let me know your results.

mx212 defective?:(

Post by reloaded »

i tried your suggestion and tested it in two different computers. i own an internet cafe so i have access to alot of computers.:) anyhow, all of them had the same result, the mx212 is not identified as anything else but as an "Unknown Device". i also tried it with a floppy power connector and without. im very disappointed since it will be very hard for me to send the unit in case its really defective since i live in the philippines.:(
