How to use USB as means of power supply

Hi All,

I have got the VK204-24-USB. I have conncted the USB cable from PC to LCD panel. Also I have connected the power cable from floppy drive to the jumper.. I want to make use of the USB power supply rather than going for an external power supply from the floppy drives.

What should I do to acheive the above(Making it USB power driven).

Thanks for your post.
You do not need to supply power to the High Input Power (page 4 of the manual)
unless you have fans that need extra power - and also so that fans start right away when power is applied.

If you do not have any fans to run, try it out: you should be able to run the module via USB power only.

Loki posted the message for me. The only thing that we are doing is sending information to the device via the USB cable. The device is going to be in an external case so using the floppy drive power cable will not work. We are not using any fans or anything else, just the usb cable to send data. I want it to power the device also. Is this possible, and if so how.

Hello Brock,

I have just realized that your module is a VFD display. VFD displays, if you are not already aware, is quite power hungry especially at the in rush of current during power on. To guarantee a successful power on, we recommend to have the floppy cable connected, because it is not always that the USB can supply the power needed by the VFD. You can still try to power up your module, follow this thread

If you have an LCD display, then for sure, USB power is enough to turn it on.
