Momentray Switches

Has anyone used momentary switches instead of a keypad? Any design suggestions?

Well, you'll either need to have a keypad matrix behind the buttons to get a good number of them, or you'll be limited to just 5 buttons, with one wire going to the 'row' connector and one to the 'column' connector.

Guess it depends on how many buttons you need really.

Yeah, lots of people have done it, and it works as advertised. ;)

If you need say ten switches, go with two groups of five. For each group of five, one leg of each switch would tie back to the common row pin, and the other leg of each of the five would tie back to a different column pin. Since the software (LCDC is about the only thing that deals with keypad sensibly) lets you map arbitrary keypresses to events, you're pretty much free to assign any meaning you like to any button in your array, so the layout of the switches in the panel isn't real significant.
