I think I killed it.....
Hooked it up to desktop. Got welcome screen. Installed drivers. Screen went blank. No backlight or test, as I can tell.
Went to restart computer, now fans start up, and stop a few seconds after.
No welcome screen, or anything. Disconnected temp probes, nothing.
Took it off, hooked it to laptop, now, nothing. Just an excalamation point in device manager.
Display seems dead.
What did I do?
hoping I didn't kill it,
Joe

Joe,
Did you use any modified power cable or is it the one you used from your power supply? Try reloading the drivers again.

I used the power directly from power supply.
my biggest problem at this point is I used this to run my water pump, and I don't think I have any other power points to connect it to. So, I'd be unable to even keep the computer running long enough to load new drivers.
I'll see what I can rig up.
I had a thought, would it be possible to use the LCD from my other unit and connect it to the controller that I think still works?

Joe,
The problem with taking the lcd off and placing it on another controller is you don't know for sure the problem is the LCD. Also, doing any modifications of that type will void the warranty. Try connecting and reloading the drivers without anything rigged up to the unit.
Let me know how everything turns out, and we will move on accordingly.

Ok, so now it's not even being recognized by Windows. Did a search and found a few forums posts I'll try. Hopefully that will work.
Other than that, I can't think of what happened. It was working perfectly hooked up to my laptop, then what dead getting hooked up to the desktop.
Could I have overloaded it, I have two fans running on one header. They are 2 ventec stealth fans, 120mm. COuld the draw from those two fans be too much?
Anywho... let me get back to trying to reinstall the drivers.
Oh, BTW, right now, the display is on, a very little bit. the best way to describe it is, it appears to not be getting enough "juice" and therefore cannot fully turn on. Hope that makes sense.
Thanks for putting up with me....

If you have kept the power requirements of the fan header within 12V and 1000mA, the display should work fine.
First try removing all the drivers from the device manager, and remove the registry entries afterwards. The registry entries can be found at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FTSER2K
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FTDIBUS
Your system should be able to detect the device afterwards.
Let me know how things turn out.

Did that.
Nothing.
Just get the USB device is not recognized error msg.
<frown> I think I killed it.
Doesn't seem to work at all, anywhere.
This morning it worked beutifully on my laptop... now.....Poof! all gone.
I did notice the keyboard connector was not on correctly. it was a pin off, compared to my other unit.
I really, want to use this, and hope I didn't kill two of them. Please let me know if there's anything I can do.
A little more info.
My comnputer will recognize my other LCD (the one we talked about last week) but won't recognize the new one anymore. It did, before everything died. They only problem was it was not being detected my LCDC. In the process of fixing that, is when it died. Now it's not recognized by anything, laptop, or desktop. And, I did the aboce procedure a few times.
Nothing....
Nadda....
Zip.....
Help me I'm going mad!!!!
But, you are being very helpful. Just wish you were here.... would make things much faster....

0.70A is = to 700mA is this correct.
Found out the max current draw for the water pump I had on the fan header, and fond someone who tested it, and found 0.70 was the MAX draw. Avg was 0.67A
If that is true, then it would under the 1000mA rating.
I really really want to get this to work... somehow. And, after today, I feel it really was me, or my desktop system that killed it.
Am I going to be stuck without this wonderfully cool, and needed item.
Hope something can be worked out.

So, here's my thought.
Going to try one other thing to see if I can get the display to work, which I don't think it will. So, I'm going to RMA both displays.
Can you give me an idea of how I can hook the unit up without killing it.
TO review. This is what I want to connect.
2 Vantec stealth fans, on two seperate headers...shouldn't be a problem.
2 Vantec Stealth fans, Y-connected to one header.
1 Danger Den MAg water pump, to one header.
Maybe a few less probes.
My first thought was to split up the two vantec fans, and put them on their own header. ANd, move the water pump to the Mobo header, where it currently resides, and seems to work fine. I don't really need to control it, so I guess it would bea waste of a header. And, this way, we know for certain, we won't go over the 1000mA limit.
Was thinking, I should try to add things one by one. ie. get the USB connection working, then add the floppy power, then add fans one by one. Sound reasonable? And, since I'll have two display, if I go the one by one route, if I blow up one ater adding something, I'll know not to add that on the next display.
Does this seem like a good idea. Since we can't seem to figure out why these display keep getting killed, I thought this would be a great way to fix, and Dx the problem.
So, with that said, please let me know how you feel I should go about this.
really want to get one of these working. And, preferable both, so I can use one as an external readout, that sits atop my desk.
Thanks again for puttting up with me, and doing such a great job of helping me out.
