can someon explain how to hook up an led to the GPO
The load is where the led goes.....and since it output +5V when "off" then I need a resistor also correct?

LEDs are easy, just hook them right up. No additional components required.
LEDs are current-driven, so the limiting feature is desirable in this case, don't obsess about voltage.
The above assumes you're not using one of the 'high-power' GPOs on the newer units.

You will need a resistor when you use the GPOs on the GLk12232-25. About 470 Ohms should be good. So the way it will work is
PIN ---> Resitor ---> LED ---> Other PIN
