I was looking at some options for my LCD, when the idea struck me. Instead of shelling out for additional ones, using temp probes that i've already got from a seperate monitor.

They're simple thermal probes, and i'd have to re-wire them to the WOL style connector so they can connect to the LCD display. The best thing about this is that I wouldn't have to use a software program to monitor temps - I could get very accurate temp readouts from the GPO.

Would it work? Feedback would be most appreciated.

You can use your temperature probes only if your probes are using the dallas one wire interface. The probes consist of three pins +5 data ground. If you don't have a dallas one wire, you can purchase it from us at http://www.matrixorbital.com/pages/acce ... sp?CatID=2.

Heh, thought that might have been the case. Pity though. These ones are simple 2 wire probes, and thus not compatible with this it seems.

I can pick up the probes pretty cheap down here in AUS, from PC Case Gear, here:

Those probes in the picture look rather chunky. Would it be possible to have the probe underneath my waterblock on the CPU, but just touching on the side of the P4 heatspreader? I'd essentially only be using it for getting accurate readouts of my CPU temp.

edit: On a second glance, it looks like they won't be too thick to mount there - i'll probably just buy one and see how it goes. If it doesn't fit under there, then i'll put it somewhere else in my system.
