LCD2041 Shows All Solid Characters w/out Backlight

I have an LCD2041 rev1.22, wide-voltage model
I have had it for a long time but had not set it up until the other day at which point it was working totally fine- backlight, RS232 communication, software(LCD Smartie) all functioning.

Then I switched the power supply from a big variable one to a wall-wart outputting 9V at 500mA. I had it working with this briefly but after rerouting the cables all I get are solid black characters without any backlighting.

What might I be doing wrong? I seem to remember having this problem when I was using the variable psu but I don't remember what the problem had been. Switching back to the variable supply now yields the same thing.
This is crazy-frustrating :-?

Thank you in advance for any ideas you may have.

Hello tysiva,

Thanks for your post.

Is it possbile for you to please post a picture of the front
and the back of your LCD2041? Also, can you tell me about the wall-wart that you used and how you used that to power the display?

Thanks,

Hi Raquel,
I'll definitely post a picture when I get home.
As far as the wiring, I have it clipped to the ground and V pins on the floppy-like connector.
Thanks.

Hello tysiva,

Thanks for the pictures.

When I see full blocks on the display, the reasons that come to mind:
- damaged microcontroller
- damaged display
- not enpugh power, ie. for an extended voltage, you should be sourcing at least 9V.

Can you please check that there is power on the output of the regulator. You should see +5V.

Thanks,

Raquel-
The multimeter reads 12V input and 5V after the regulator.
You think there is something seriously wrong here?
Thanks for your help.
