I'm depressed. This weekend I purchased and installed two brand new silent Scythe 120mm fans into my case, both hooked to my trusty mx213 display.. All was good for about 20 minutes until I started to notice the tell-tale stink of an electronic component overheating. I pulled open my case to see that one of the new fans had stopped spinning, and determined that the smell had come from the fan motor. Angry about my now dead $18 fan, I unplugged and replaced it with the old fan, and restarted the machine, only to notice that my MX display was now totally unresponsive. No LCD, no fan output, nothing. kaput. I looked carefully at the PCB and see no blown components, but it appears my display is history..

Anyway, to get to the point. Is there anything I can do to try to reincarnate my display? Or is my only option to pony up for a brand new unit? I'd be interested in a newer model, but it doesn't appear that any of the current offerings have fan control capabilities.

Thanks for your post, sorry to hear that you've lost not only one of your new fans, but your MX unit as well. Unfortunately, as I'm sure you know all too well, the smell of burning emanating from any kind of electronic circuitry is in no way a good thing. The fact that the LCD no longer displays any function, coupled with the prior burning smell, tells me that this display is in need of a gravestone.

As far as replacements go, you are right, there are very few options currently available for fan control. The MX series did have this capability, however, the -24-USB line of displays that were its backbone have been replaced by the new -25-USB models, which do not have the fan outputs of their predecessors.

We are currently in the middle of rearranging our display line, and unfortunately, the advanced GPO capability, used for fan control, has not been completely replaced at this time. Our new graphics offering, the GX Series will be the platform for many peripheral interfaces in the future through various add-on boards.

I hope this will provide a few ideas for you, as you look to lay your MX213 to rest, and move forward to a new display. If you have any further questions or concerns regarding any of our displays, please let me know.
