I looked and looked and I just can't find a kit complete with a four to three pin power cable, serial cable, cutting template for hacking your box or faceplate with MO logo, and the LCD itself.

I'd really like to get a complete kit, is it possible? I'm looking at the first LCD listed on the graphic LCDs page. I'm a complete n00b with this stuff, and a kit would be just tasty...

OK, I have good news and some semi good news We do not have a "complete kit" for the GLK12232-25-SM currently. But we can put most of one together. You will need this:
*GLK12232-25-SM $79.00

*Power Cable (an unmodified floppy power cbale will do fine) or $4.99 from us.
*4BR cable $5.39(I will add it tomorow)
*Short serial cable (any will do or you can get it from us)or from us 1ft for $5.49

Well, there is no mounting kit specifically for the GLK12232-25SM yet.

Henry: How well does the LK162 overlay fit on the SM? It must be pretty close.

here is a mechanical drawing, from here you should be able to break out the dremel and cut out a window for the entire display or just for the pixels are and somewhere in between. Print the picture off and use it as a guide. Maybe print it off on some sticky paper to place over the drive bay. The largest box is the actual bezzel size, the next one in is the glass and the final box is the actual pixels. The recomendation is to cut somewhere between the two inner lines, so you have the pixel area and some extra around to balance it out.

I have another stupid question, however. How would I go about powering this unit externally? I don't see any cables for mounting this LCD in a project box or even just sitting outside the case period. I have an idea (unorthodox casing), but I need to know how to get power to the sucker...

Well, you have two options when powering the unit...



For the white connector you can use a regular un-modified floppy connector. OR for the brown connector you can add another pin (to the 4BR cable)and give it +5V there. Either way the unit will get power

Just to clarify, the unit does not actually use 12 volts. the pin is open

Clear as mud, guys. How can I *cleanly* use a floppy power connector *externally*?

I don't think I've made it quite clear here. I can cut holes in cases, do some neato design stuff, hack apart a usb hub etc. I don't know that wirin' stuff. I don't know a white connector from a brown connector from a tree stump.

I need a n00bieeeeee guide or sumpin' like dat.

Well, you can get another power supply for the unit and have it sitting out side. As in the picture above, tre LCD has two places to connect power to it, all depending on how you want to do it. You can find your self a standard 5V power supply (any electronics store) and cut the end off. Get your self a floppy cable (cut the end off too leaving some wire) and solder them together in the right places. Ground (out side cable)would goto one of the black cables on the floppy connector and then +5V (inside cable) would be solderd to the red cable. I hope this makes sense.
