My guess is that that command affects the brightness of the LCD - probably backlighting brightness - since the VFD brighness is actually a different command (254 89 [brighness] ) and not (254 153 [brightness]).
I suspect that the 254 89 command produces a change in signal on a different logic path ...

VK-204-24-USB ... Any way to SAVE default brightness setting
Looking through the version 1 manual for the vk204-24-usb, it seems a lot of it is lcd related. There are 3 ways to set the brightness. The one I know works (I've tested, is 254 89 [brightness] described in 7.1.2 on page 26), though the values of brightness are backwards - 00 is the brightest, while ...

Do the VK204-24-usb's also have the GPO issue?
If the vk202-24-usb's have some design issue with the GPO's, do the vk204-24-usb's also have this GPO issue possibly?
I have not had a chance to try the outputs yet, but want to check to see if I should test them now to see if the the same issue affects the 4 row VFD as the 2 row VFD.
Is there ...

Now that I've had a few more hours to play with the display, I have a few questions.

VK204-24-USB support in LCD Tester?
Can you add the VK204-24-USB to the database of devices in LCD Tester?
With the VK204-25, I don't get all the features the manual v1 indicates I should have (like setting the bootup splash text). With the LK202-25-USB, I only get to define 2 lines.

Will the tester software support the VK-204-24-USB?
I just downloaded and used the latest LCD Tester software and find that the database does not contain the configuration information for the VFD model VK-204-24-USB. As a result, I don't get to use all the features. I have to select a model that is close and tell the software to ignore the fact that ...

Just to let you guys know, as this was the case with the first VK204-24-USB I received, which I asked about via email:
The VK204-24-USB is to be powered by a standard, unmodified floppy cable the way it leaves the factory as the jumpers have already been configured for that mode of operation. This ...

VK204-24-USB - How to power?
I just recieved my VK204-24-USB and after reading the attached flyer in the box (DO NOT USE AN UNMODIFIED FLOPPY POWER CABLE, it says) and the online PDF docs for the VK-204-24-USB, I am a bit confused as to how I should power my unit.

Duh, Thomas! Geez, sometimes I'm amazed at how brain-dead I can be. I remember reading that... Sorry for the stupid question there Henry. :)
