Character glitches

Post by Stinger »

I posted this over at the LCDC Forums, but I also wanted to post it here. Here's what I have done so far:

"I wanted to try out the 4-line Orbital that I bought for my other PC on a PC that I had a 4-line Orbital already installed on. All I did was unplug the one already installed and plugged in the newer one. I got an error when I tried to run LCDC, so I uninstalled all software dealing with the Orbital and did a fresh install of the USB drivers and LCDC. All drivers/software are the latest versions. I noticed that now, the newer Orbital used COM 4 instead of COM 3 that the older Orbital used. I'm able to make screens and they work fine. But, when I set them to cycle, I get character glitches. I installed all the custom characters that are needed for my screens.

Here's where it gets strange. Not all the screens that cycle have the same glitches. Say for instance, my TIME shows the glitches and then when it cycles around again, it's perfectly fine. I did notice that the seconds that tick by will hang for 2 seconds and "jump" advance. This happens with all my screens. Also, I noticed that when text scrolls, it's "choppy". I changed the FPS from 4 to 2 and that did not change the problem. I changed it back to 4 and it's still choppy and has glitches. The other Orbital that I had installed worked fine. I have not connected it back up yet to test it out, but could it be that COM 4 is causing the problem? I did not disconnect the USB cable (internal) from the motherboard, I disconnected it from the Orbital itself.

I have an Abit IC7-MAX3, P4 2.4 (overclocked to 3.2), 1gig of PC4200 Geil Ram, Windows XP Pro (SP-1). I have a USB Printer, 4-port USB Hub and a USB keyboard lamp using the USB ports (external).

Now, if I have to change COM ports, how do I do this? Go into Device Manager?

I just uninstalled and reinstalled the USB 1.1 drivers and LCDC v1.05.29 and I still have the problem mentioned above.

I have just tested my other Orbital and it's having the same problems. So, it's not the LCD itself. It has something to do with my PC. The way I uninstalled the USB drivers is by going into Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the Matrix Orbital USB 1.1 drivers and then I go into the Device Manager itself and uninstall the Matrix Orbital. I reboot, XP locates the new hardware, installs the Matrix Orbital USB 1.1 drivers and then all is done. If I go into Screen Builder, build a screen or just look at one of the default screens, I see the problem with the glitches. This happens when I set all my screens to cycle too."

Can anyone help with this?

Now, for an update. I took my original LCD (MX430) and installed it on my other PC. This PC never had a LCD installed. I have been monitoring it for a few hours now and not one glitch is present. This was the same LCD that I used on this PC I'm using now and it had glitches. So, I do believe my problem is with the initial install before I installed this other LCD (MX431). How can I totally wipe out anything dealing with Matrix Orbital and LCDC so I can do a fresh install? I have tried doing a System Restore to a few days ago before I tried installing a different LCDC, but that did not solve my problem.

IT'S FIXED!!!! WOOOOHOOOO!!!!! I was forgetting to go into the Registry and delete 2 files associated with the Matrix Orbital:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FTSER2K
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FTDIBUS

Once I deleted these 2 files as well as going into Add and Remove Programs from the Control Panel, all I had to do was turn off my PC, connect my kicka$$ MX431 via the Internal USB cable, install the USB 1.1 drivers for the Orbital, install the latest version of LCDC and now.....
I'M BACK IN BUSINESS!!!! I'm sooo happy!!!
:D :D :D
