USB driver install failed: how uninstall drivers?

The driver installation did not go as per the instructions, for example, no Matrix Orbital drivers were mentioned when new hardware was found. How can I uninstall whatever was installed? BTW I have lots of other USB drivers shown in Hardware Manager, including a USB to serial which might be for MO but I don't know.

Hi Doug,

Thank you for posting at the forum.

Under "Universal Serial Bus controllers", there should show Matrix Orbital MX USB driver, if something was ever installed.

You will also need to remove the registry entries. The location of the registry entries can be found at http://www.lcdforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1016 .

Which unit do you have?

Nothing shows with MO in the list. I have an MX600.

Doug,

You may have drivers that may be causing some conflict. Can you try either testing out the unit on another machine or removing your other drivers?

If you plugged in a unmodified floppy power cable into the display, does the start up screen show up?

I don't have the option to try it on another machine.
When I first tried to install it and then installed LCDC, the screen displayed the startup display, so I assume the unit works (LCDC said it couldn't find the MX600). I could try the floppy power cable but that is quite a surprising amount of work to accomplish for my particular machine. As for driver conflicts, I haven't a clue. I will email you a screen capture of the Device Manager showing my other USB drivers. BTW, even though I have three times tried to uninstall the USB to serial driver that was installed when I tried to install the MX600, it keeps coming back with a yellow !

Doug,

It looks as though your problem is the USB Serial Converter driver is the conflict. You will need to find the location of the registry entries it is for that driver. After you get rid of that conflict, you will be able to get the MX6 device to work. Another possible solution is to disable the driver, and try to install the Matrix Orbital driver, but I suggest you get rid of the other driver.

Device Manager listed three files in the sys32 and sys32/drivers directories for that driver. I deleted them. I rebooted and still no Found New Hardware wizard. I ran Add New Hardware and it acted like when I first tried installing the MX600: instead of finding a MO per your CD file, it found a USB device. So I searched the registry and found a lot of references to the driver (FTDI), and deleted them all. When I rebooted, this time the Found New Hardware wizard says it found a USB to serial converter -- nothing about MO.

First: I decided to point that Found New Hard wizard to the
USB folder on your CD, and it installed a USB to serial;
converter. No mention of MO. I found only one reference
in the registry this time, and deleted it. I found the
three files in the Windows directory and deleted them again.
LCDC can't find the MX600, but the MX600 does display
the startup screen.

Now to answer your question: not as far as know. I have USB to flash socket drivers. So I looked at the port list in Device Manager and it says COM3 is the MX600 USB driver! But when the Found New Hardware wizard found a USB to serial converter above, it assigned it to COM4. The COM3 driver files are ftser2k.sys and serenum.sys.

MY BAD!!! Sorry, the paragraph above about COM3 is on the PC I'm using to conduct this conversation -- it has a working MX202 -- while I'm trying to istall the MX600 on another PC not this one. On that PC, there are only the usual COM1 and 2. Boy, using a KVM switch can be dangerous when you're tired.... sorry.

Can you try to connect the MX600 to the unit with the MX202? I want to try to eliminate any possibilities that it is the PC or the unit. Makes the trouble shooting a little easier.

I bought a new MX202 from MO so I wouldn't have to take the MX202 out of my other PC. It came today and installed perfectly. Now I wonder if the MX600 was defective or what?

There's a possibility the MX600 is defective. I will email you to discuss some RMA options.
