PK vs. LK vs. VK
PK vs. LK vs. VK
What are the advantages and disadvantages of the three different types of displays?
Hi Cyndrax,
Thank you for posting at the forums.
The main advantage the PK and VK has over the LK displays is that they are brighter, and they have a higher viewing angle. The LK displays are less expensive than the PK and VK displays. An advantage that the PK and VK has over the LK units is it can withstand more extreme temperatures, which is a maximum of -40 to 85C (extended temperature option) for VK and -20 to 85C for a PK. The LK display can be used at a maximum of -20 to 70C, but that is only available in the regular yellow green colour. Functionality wise, they all function very similarly.
I hope this answer clarifies things for you.
If you have anymore questions or concerns, please feel free to post.
Best Regards,

A few addtional points to add:
PK technology is a newer technology so please note that life expectancy for these displays are not near the hours that a VFD or Character LCD will allow.
Pro's for the PK series are not only low power consuption (approx 45mA) but the same crisp, clear display quality and viewing angles as a VFD for a lower cost.
The VFD's, as mentioned above, do have the filters (colors) that help with filtering direct sunlight and often used in outdoor and extreme applications. The VFD, Vacuum Florecent Technology, is extremely popular in applications with high temperature requirements and long life expencatancy. Well worth the higher price if your design requires specific specifications.
Our Character LCD's still remain very popular displays for the less extreme enviroment applications. They are priced extremely competitive for the options and value they allow.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions or concerns.
