Which LCD is suitable for this?

Post by Roman »

Hello!
I am developing an application, where VB based SW will count numbers, and then I need to display those numbers on some LCD. Basically, I need an LCD with RS232 or USB connection, this LCD have to be able to display numbers that is coming form my VB based SW. Does Matrix Orbital provide this possibility? Before ordering real LCD, can I test how my VB SW is communicating with LCD using Virtual Display of LCDC SW? Many thanks!

Hi Roman,

Our displays are easy to integrate into a VB based program. In order to display a message on the LCD you must be able to communicate with the comm port, once you have opened the port, it is as simple as sending a message to the unit for it to display. It is similar to printing to a DOS consol at that point.

There are also specific commands that can be found in the manual that allow you to perform functions on the display. Such as having large numbers for example, or moving the cursor to a specific position before you print. You may also create your own custom characters, and print them out. There is space for 8 custom characters to be created at a time.

We do not have a program that can emulate the LCD for development purposes, however we do have a evaluation program, Where you have 3 months to evaluate our display, during which period you may return it for a 5% admin fee.

If you have any more questions please post them.

Hi Jon, thanks a lot for your reply!

Somehow ( :D ) I was able to emulate virtual display inside LCDC environment and using 3rd party TXT plugin I displayed needed information on this virtual LCD. But now, I have to discuss with programmer about simplified connection to LCD within VB, and after this order real MO display.

I suppose that my following question is not matching this forum, but nevertheless - I am situated in Estonia, is it possible to order MO LCD through ELFA distributor?

Many thanks,

Roman.

I do not see why you shouldn't be able to order from ELFA, however you may also order off of our website at www.matrixorbital.com if you are unable to.
