screen stopped working

Post by LCD user »

All of a sudden. I tried to restart LCDC but got the error message "Unable To Open Communications With Com5". What does this mean?

Thanks

Hello LCD user,

Thanks for your post.

You might have to restart your system. Make sure that there are no other applications or device actively using the (virtual) comport.

Thanks,

I did a re-start, and I have the same problem. My LCD screen is totally non-responsive. It's also not controlling my fans, I'm running a little hot with a minimal load on my processor. Any other ideas?
Thanks

Hi,

Does the display at least power up, just non-responsive?

Please try the following out:
1. Close off any application that communicates with the display (LCDC, uProject, others).
2. Disconnect all power connections to the display (USB, floppy power).
3. Disconnect fan connections.
4. Reconnect the USB cable, see if the display is recognized by the system and that it powers up.
5. Open up LCDC and see if you can communicate with the display. Make sure you are at the right (virtual) com port

Please let me know how it turns out.

Ok, how about doing just steps 1 and 2, then power the display with the floppy power cable?

I've already done that, essentially.

Hi,

That is too bad. Your origianl problem of
All of a sudden. I tried to restart LCDC but got the error message "Unable To Open Communications With Com5". What does this mean?
Sounded like it is just a communication problem, did not sound like you might have a dead display, which seems to be the case now. Powering up the display with the floppy power cable should power the display up unconditionally. Please make sure that the floppy power cable is ok, if you have another one, try that out as well.

Hi, thanks for your help
The floppy cable seems to be intact. The backlight is working, just nothing comes up on the display. It's not controlling the fans either.
Thanks
