Wiring multiple (10) displays to single port?

Post by JohnCox »

I have a project that is going to require ten independent LK204-25 displays. I would like to know my options for wiring them to a single serial, parallel or preferably USB port.

Each display would need to be addressable so that the software can update each independently. Each display will also have either a 5x5 or 1x3 keyboard attached and control a few 5v or 12v lights with the GPOs.

All ten displays will be mounted in fairly close proximity to each other (within 20-30 feet total distance end-to-end).

The software, that I will be developing, will poll each display for keypresses. If one is detected, each of the ten displays may need updating as a result of the action, along with a few GPO switches. Whatever means for communication that's used, needs to be fast enough to accomplish the polls and updates in about a second.

Cost will eventually become a consideration, as this project is just a prototype to one that may be mass produced (10-100 units).

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You can use USB to serial converters and a VCP. We will be developing a USB 4x20 in the near future as well. You can also get a serial port expantion card for many more serial ports.
