LCD problem

Post by dimitar »

Hello,

I am using GLK12232-25-SM LCD for a self made MP3 player and so far everything was Ok.

But this morning when I powered the player, there was thick line acros the screen (probably 10-20 pixels thick, from the top to the bottom) and the right portion of the screen was displaying everything mirrored (as you look on mirror reflection).

Any ideas why is this? I tried to power down and power up several times, but still the same problem. Pretty much the LCD is unreadable.

Does anybody else have/had such problem?

Thanks,

Dimitar

Hello...

Can you communicate with the display at all, ie. turn the backlight off/on, contrast up/down?

Yes, I was able to communicate with the display. The backlight was working Ok.
Just this thick black line near the middle of the display, and everything that was on the line's right side was mirrored.
The left side of the LCD was working Ok.

Later during the day I tried again, and it worked just fine. No black line anymore.

Some more information:
My player is installed in my car (for nearly two weeks now).
During the night the temperature were around 5 degrees celsius.

The power supply is filtered, protected with TVS diode, and stabilized.

The communication with the LCD was Ok. I was able to press keys, and they were correctly sent over the serial line.

Any ideas what could have caused this problem?
If it appears again I can take a picture if you think it will be helpful.

Thanks,

Just forgot to mention that the picture displayed on power up also was mirrored after the black line. I replaced the factory logo with my own picture, but probably this should not matter.

Basically the black line was on top of everything else. Like dead pixels.

Hello...

I liked your suggestion of taking a picture the next time it happens...The temperature should have no effect as it is in spec... Your power supply sounds just fine...
