Interested in using LCD on an Abit AT7 board

Only problem is no legacy connections. Will a usb to serial cable work? The board has USB 1.1 and 2.0 but no serial ports at all. I really want the AT7 but I also want the possibility of adding the LCD in a few months. Any help is greatly appreciated.
